A Keetmanshoop resident, along with his girlfriend, made their first appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate Court today. Esmond Isaaks and Juventa Fredericks are charged for the alleged murder of Mervin Kooper. Isaaks allegedly intentionally struck Kooper on the head with a brick, and Fredricks stabbed him in the arm. The court documents stated the incident occurred near the TransNamib location at Keetmanshoop on Monday. Kooper reportedly died from injuries sustained during the attack on him. Public Prosecutor Abel Manyando objected to bail, describing the offense as serious. He added that the state has a strong case against the two accused, noting that it would not be in the best interest of the community for them to be released on bail. Additionally, Fredericks is currently on bail for another alleged murder that happened on 28 November 2023, when she allegedly stabbed Johannes Rooi with a sharp object. She is expected to stand trial in that matter on the 16th of April 2026. Manyando further raised concerns that the two accused may abscond if released, adding investigations are still ongoing and that the post-mortem reports have not yet be finalised. Both said they will apply for legal aid. The two, who were denied bail, were advised by Magistrate Erich Dandu to make sure they apply for legal aid before their next court appearance, scheduled for the 10th of June 2026.
