According to official sources, priority will be given to crowded commercial areas, inner-city localities, busy markets, and industrial zones, where fire incidents have repeatedly caused loss of lives and property. The Chief Minister has directed concerned departments to ensure that the hydrants are installed according to modern safety standards and are regularly monitored. However, serious concerns are being raised about the practical implementation of this plan. Narrow streets in markets, illegal encroachments, hanging electric wires, blocked access roads, and poor urban planning raise questions about how fire tenders will even reach affected areas—let alone use the hydrants effectively. Citizens and traders believe that installing hydrants alone is not enough. They are demanding removal of encroachments, proper road access, underground wiring, strict enforcement of fire safety laws, and regular fire audits in markets and commercial buildings. Experts say that if this project is implemented alongside fire safety inspections, emergency response training, and strict SOP enforcement, it could significantly reduce fire-related disasters in Punjab.
