Tune in for a conversation between Rooted in Urban Agriculture Youth Employee Samy Garcia Sierra and Urban Triage's Ruthanna Hutton-Okpalaeke, filmed during a field trip we took out to the Farley Center this past summer to learn more about Urban Triage's Healthy Black Agriculture Program! Help support this workshop series! Your donations allow us to continue to produce virtual workshops, compensate our guests, and make these workshops free and available to all. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls in 2017, combining her passion for science with a commitment to community impact. After graduating, Ruthanna joined the Peace Corps as an Agriculture Extension Agent, spending over two years immersed in Cameroonian agriculture practices and gaining hands-on experience working with cooperative farmers. Her diverse professional background also includes laboratory research and animal care, where she refined her scientific skills and applied her biological expertise in practical settings. Her role includes empowering families to start home gardens and promoting sustainable farming practices within Madison's Black community. Ruthanna’s mission is to reconnect people with the land and support Black farmers by providing hands-on opportunities for community members to learn how to grow their own food.
