The world systems appear to suffer from an entrenched dysfunction that tests our commitment to, or even our belief in, international norms and principles to uphold the dignity and equality of all human life. We have witnessed increasing trends in politicized polarization, at home or abroad, not to mention the recent escalation of war in Israel and Gaza or the protracted warfare between Russia and Ukraine. Atrocity crimes are ongoing elsewhere but hardly receive public attention. Power politics among the nuclear powers are entering a new level of uncertainty but rarely increase public discourse about the danger. We seek answers, but complex explanations are often muted. We yearn for actions but simultaneously face an increased compulsion to profess allegiance to one side or another. How do we approach the world engulfed with so much violence and division? How can dialogue and conflict resolution contribute to peace? Enjoy this conversation with Dr. Andrea Bartoli, the Executive Adviser of the Soka Institute for Global Solutions (SIGS). Dr. Andrea Bartoli. SIGS Executive Adviser and SUA Board of Trustees member, is the President of the Sant'Egidio Foundation for Peace and Dialogue. It represents a lay Catholic association called the Community of Sant'Egidio, originally founded in Rome and now with a worldwide membership dedicated to social service and peace-building. Formerly, he was the Dean of Seton Hall University's School of Diplomacy and International Relations and the Dean of George Mason University's School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution. --- Thinking about joining us at Soka University of America?
