U-Haul slams into north Seattle 7-Eleven during attempted ATM burglary

Police are investigating after a group of people used a U-Haul to break through the front of a 7-Eleven in Seattle's Bitter Lake neighborhood during an attempted ATM burglary early Thursday morning. A neighbor in the area told KOMO News they heard a noise and saw people in the U-Haul attempting to ram their way into the building. The business owner didn’t want to go on camera, but told KOMO News crews at the scene he saw at least three people on surveillance video attempting to remove the ATM from the store after they got inside the building. The owner said the people inside were unable to remove the ATM and doesn’t believe anything was stolen from the store, but he was left with thousands of dollars in damages that now need to be repaired. It happened along I-5 in Federal Way. WSDOT officials said a car rammed into two of their maintenance crew vehicles, and now officials are warning drivers to slow down. A WSDOT spokesperson said all three of their workers were evaluated at the hospital and were released. She added crashes like these are happening more often and raising serious concerns about the safety of their workers. The man is most recently facing charges for leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit Wednesday through Lacey and onto trails before wrecking the truck he was driving into a trailer. Deputies at the time suspected him of DUI. The sheriff's office said the man gave deputies a false name before taking off in the truck. In a social media post, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said the man had "been identified and has active warrants for eluding, assault second degree, and assault third degree.
