Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church, As we prepare our hearts for the coming Sabbath, I invite you to join us as we gather once again around God’s Word. This week, we are blessed to have Elder Hyacinth Frank-Stephens share the message “Is Lent For Me?”, with our Scripture reading taken from Mark 1:9-13. Below is a brief summary of the message, shared by Elder Hyacinth Frank Stephens. Scripture Reading: Mark 1:9-13 Sermon Summary The word Lent has its root in the Old English word, "Lencten" or Dutch, "Lente" meaning, "The season of lengthening days, or spring". Passover is traditionally celebrated at this time, as is the time of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. In memory of Christ's suffering, death and resurrection, history suggests that early Christians engaged in periods of fasting and prayer to prepare themselves to commemorate this life changing event. Lent, it is claimed, evolved from this practice. As a convert to Seventh-day Adventism, I beg the question, "Is Lent for Me?" Join me as I seek to find answers in this new path I have chosen. I invite you to join us with open hearts as we worship, reflect, and grow together in God’s Word. Happy Sabbath, and may God’s presence be richly felt among us.
