The Top 30 songs with 5 extras by the Who, Yes, Van Morrison, Lou Rawls and Sweathog from the 1971 singles charts of Billboard, Cash Box and Record World magazines for weeks ending December 4, 11, 18, 25 and January 1, 1972. Unlike for my books, Ranking the ‘60s and Ranking the ‘70s (with Bill Carroll), in which a weighted ranking system was used, I used a simple reverse ranking system, assigning 1 point to No. 30, 2 points to No. 29, etc. I kept it simple since we’re dealing with five weeks rather than a longer duration, like a year. So far, I’ve not had to substitute covers for copy-protected songs for this video, but that could change anytime if I’m notified sooner or later to remove an original. *1971 Rank given to the three songs leaving the charts is an average of those songs’ year-end rankings from Joel Whitburn, Billboard magazine, Fred Bronson, Bill Carroll and Cash Box magazine. Since Billboard and Cash Box did not include the weeks of December in ranking their Top 100 songs of 1971, I omitted the two magazines from this month's average of the three songs that left the charts.
