Gerry Adams could become eligible for compensation under Labour's latest plans to repeal the Legacy Act. The Supreme Court paved the way for Gerry Adams to get compensation in 2020 when it was ruled that Adams was unlawfully imprisoned during the Troubles under a technicality. The Conservative government quickly passed a law to ensure Adams would not be eligible for compensation. Now, due to conflicts with the European Court of Human Rights, Labour are looking to remove that law. The Spectator's John Connolly is joined by former leader of the DUP and former First Minister of Northern Ireland Arlene Foster to discuss the details of the legislation, what this means for the victims of IRA killings and the case brought against Gerry Adams coming up in London next year. #gerryadams #ira #starmer #northernireland #sinnfein #belfast // CHAPTERS 01:13 Why could Gerry Adams get compensation? 03:38 Should the Legacy Act be repealed? 09:14 Starmer's legal background 10:20 Lord Hermer & potential conflict of interest 12:01 Upcoming court case against Gerry Adams // SUBSCRIBE TO THE SPECTATOR Get 12 issues for £12, plus a free £20 John Lewis/Waitrose voucher https://www.spectator.co.uk/tvoffer // FREE PODCASTS FROM THE SPECTATOR Hear more from The Spectator's journalists on their podcasts, covering everything from the politics of the UK, US and China, to religion, literature, lifestyle and more. https://www.spectator.co.uk/podcasts/ // FOLLOW US / spectator / officialspectator / the-spectator / spectator1828 / thespectatormagazine
