The Ostrich fern does not grow wild in all countries, so its wise to research the latin name and see what is written about it in your own language before you head out to forage. In this video I teach you everything I know about a great wild vegetable, the OSTRICH FERN fiddlehead (Matteuccia struthiopteris). I go through Identification, taste and preparation. Remember to identify the Ostrich Fern properly, as we do have some toxic ferns. And do not forage more than a third of each crown, otherwise you will kill the whole plant. Ostrich ferns should be cooked for 15 minutes before you eat them, otherwise they might cause some stomach ache.
