This training is a part of MCASA's Spring 2026 Sexual Assault Victim Advocate Fundamentals Training Series. This training was presented live on March 05, 2026. The trainer was MCASA's Human Trafficking Legal Specialist. ASL interpreters interpreted this training. MCASA's Sexual Assault Victim Advocate Fundamentals Training is an online training for advocates who work directly with sexual assault survivors in Maryland. The training covers introductory topics to provide a foundation for best practices for advocates in the field of sexual assault services. This training was broken into two parts. The learning objectives for Part 1 were to: Define human trafficking and clearly differentiate between sex and labor trafficking. Provide at least one example of what force fraud and coercion look like. Identify and debunk at least three common myths or misconceptions about human trafficking. Explain the intersection of human trafficking with sexual assault and domestic violence, including at least one example each from pre-, during-, and post-trafficking experiences. Describe the current scope of human trafficking both nationally and in Maryland. The learning objectives for Part 2 were to: Recognize at least six key red flags or indicators of trafficking across different victim presentations. Identify at least two ways complex trauma may manifest in survivors of trafficking, using examples. List at least two “dos” when interacting with human trafficking survivors.
