Today in our 2001 Toyota Tundra, we'll be installing the Curt class 3 2-inch trailer hitch part number 13184. Here's what the hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now, we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost sides of the bumper is approximately four inches. From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 21 inches. Now, let's go ahead and install our hitch. We'll begin here by pointing out the mounting locations we'll be using on each side of the vehicle. The middle location will be an existing wild nut. The rear location will be a hole that's already in the frame. In the forward-most location will be one that we'll have to drill a hole through the frame. Now for the hardware that we'll be using to mount our hitch. For the middle location, which is the existing wild nut, we'll be using an M12 hex bolt, a half-inch lock washer, and a spacer block. Now for the rear and the forward-most mounting location on each side, a half-inch hex bolt, a spacer block on top. Then on the underside, we use another spacer block, a half-inch lock washer, and finally a hex nut. This will be the same hardware used for both sides of the vehicle. Now before we can put our hardware in the existing wild nut, we'll going to go ahead and use a little bit of spray lubricant as well as a half-inch nylon tube brush, which is part number 814092, to go ahead and clean the threads out. Once you've done this, it's a good idea to take the M12 bolt and make sure that it threads in easily. If it does not, you'll need to continue to clean the threads on the existing wild nut. We'll go ahead and put the hardware in the rear location by putting the half-inch hex bolt through the spacer block and dropping it through the hole in the frame. We'll do this for both sides. Now, it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch up into place. Then we'll raise the hitch up into position. We'll go ahead and put the other spacer block over the bolt, followed by the lock washer, and then finally the nut. We'll then go ahead and move to the middle mounting location on each side and install our hardware there. We'll do this for both sides. Once we have these four locations installed, we'll go ahead and tighten them down. Now to tighten up the hardware for the half-inch bolt drops from the top side of the frame downward, you will need to use a wrench to hold this as you tighten down the nut on the underside. Then we'll need to drill the hole for the forward-most location on each side. We'll start out first by using a pilot bit on each side, followed by drilling a 17 30 seconds hole through each of the forward-most mounting locations. Now that we have each of the 17 30 seconds holes drilled, one on each side, we'll go ahead and install the hardware. Again, at this location, it's the half-inch hex bolt, the two spacer blocks, the lock washer, and the hex nut. Now that we have all the hardware installed, we'll go ahead and make sure everything's tightened down. Then we'll torque it to the manufacturer's specifications. We'll do this for both sides. Now that all the hardware's been torqued down, that will complete our installation of the Curt trailer hitch part number 13184 on our 2001 Toyota Tundra. .
