Ever since the year 1742 there's been a glass industry in the south of Sweden. It's transitioned from making common household glassware, into world-famous glass studios. Let's explore the Kingdom of Crystal in Sweden! For more videos every week, subscribe to the channel: https://www.youtube.com/threestarvaga... Also, join the Three Star Vagabond Facebook group to discuss upcoming videos: / threestarvagabond In this video I visit the famous glass studios of Bergdala, Målerås, Skruv and Boda. I also visit Kosta, where you can find the oldest glassworks in Småland. In 1742 Kosta was founded, and that was the birth of the Swedish Glass Realm - Glasriket. Or was it really? The history of glassmaking in the south of Sweden is fascinating, but no one called it the Kingdom of Crystal back in those days. It's a marketing term that wasn't used until the 1900s, when art glass became popular instead of common glassware. While visiting these glassworks I learn more about how to make glass, and I also try to blow a beer glass for myself in Kosta. I also explain what Hyttsill is (furnace herring? hot shop herring?), and the history behind it. And I visit both glass makers and glass stores to look at magnificent examples of what's been produced in Småland. And let's not forget The Glass Factory, a glass museum with 40 000 pieces of glass, and an active glass producer as well. There's a lot to see and explore in the Kingdom of Crystal in Sweden!
