It's one of Georgia's oldest urban settlements, dating back to the late Bronze/early Iron Age (1000 BCE). Located 15 kilometers east of Gori, this rock-hewn city served as a vital political, religious, and cultural center in the Kartli kingdom. While it began as a pagan site, it later integrated Christian structures before being largely abandoned following the 13th-century Mongol invasions.
