I heard the dispatcher call this long coal train a monster. This train is a monster, with 110 cars ahead of the mid train engines, and another 55 cars on the rear. A friend heard the detector give the length at over 9,000 feet. This southbound loaded coal train is at Carey Siding, between Athens, Alabama and Ardmore on the Alabama/Tennessee state line. This is the former L&N line between Nashville and Birmingham. This siding was added a few years ago. It's a modern 10,000 ft. plus siding. Many years ago L&N had a short siding at Carey, but it was later removed. This is the first time I've seen mid train engines on this line since L&N ran their power car experiments in the Sixties (and I saw them at this same location). 1:32 - Distributed Power The lead locomotives are CSX 830 and CSX 5121.
