In the studio, Terry talks about political campaigns with Joe Trippi, a national consultant who got his start in San Jose. Joe worked on the presidential campaigns of Ted Kennedy, Gary Hart, and Walter Mondale. Locally, Joe did the TV ads for Mayoral candidates, Susan Hammer and Ron Gonzales. Most notably, he managed Howard Dean's 2004 run for President. In that campaign, Joe pioneered the use of online technology to revolutionize political campaigns, especially by raising big money from small donors. In 2010, he was senior strategist for Governor Jerry Brown, and most recently he created the TV ads for Ro Khanna's successful run for Congress against Mike Honda. In Community News, Lupe Rodriguez briefs us on the work of Planned Parenthood. And finally, In “Where are They Now?”, we continue our conversation with Mort Levine, who along with his wife Elaine, published the weekly Sun Newspapers, in a dozen communities in, and around, San Jose, from the 1950s to the 1980s. These newspapers were a crucial alternative to the Mercury News and gave voice to a new generation of community leaders.
