CONTENTMENT, COMPLACENCY, AND COMMITMENT ⚠️ Today’s devotional looks at three powerful words that shape our faith walk: Contentment. Complacency. Commitment. Contentment is good. The Bible encourages us to be grateful and satisfied with what God has given us. But contentment can quietly drift into complacency. Complacency happens when we stop pursuing God. When routines replace relationship. When spiritual growth slows because we become comfortable. Proverbs 1:32 warns us: “For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.” Spiritual complacency rarely happens overnight. It’s subtle. We stop reading Scripture as often. We stop seeking God’s wisdom. We stop growing. Before we know it, we find ourselves spiritually stagnant. Jesus warned about this in Revelation 3:15–16: “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot… because you are lukewarm… I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” God calls us to more than just drifting through our faith. He calls us to commitment. 1 Thessalonians 5:6 says: “So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.” Commitment means actively seeking God. It means growing. Learning. Staying alert. Pursuing a deeper relationship with Him. God never intended for us to simply survive spiritually. He calls us to thrive.
