In an engaging interview with the Insights Success team, Richard Larson unfolded his professional journey, including his inspirations, interests, challenges faced and countered, etc. During the days of his engineering education, Richard began working as a teaching assistant to meet his regular needs, support his education and other living expenses. Soon he became interested in the content of applied probability and eventually fell in love with teaching. Richard revealed that his journey of over 50 years has been evolved through the positions of teaching assistant, assistant professor, associate professor, full professor and chaired professor. The further reason of developing interest in teaching was the engagement with the students and seeing the glow in their eyes as he sincerely taught the subjects. His dedication got the students involved in the subject and he earned the respect as he successfully taught the complex concepts effectively. Richard developed the understanding about certain students who didn't understand, need more attention and involvement. In the early stages when people were not ready to accept the advent of internet, Richard was the one who saw the Internet can provide the democratization of educational opportunities worldwide to both rich and poor communities. MIT Blossoms program blended learning open source science or math studies and that was motivated by a trip made to China. A teacher showing videotapes of world class teacher in Hong Kong, and he would pause the videotape every once in a while and interact with the students live. It was a really good experience.
