Nick Hodgson introduced the workshop covering the basic science behind percussion therapy & the 3D energy gun, focusing on the "six Y’s of physiology" – adaptability, flexibility, pliability, renitency, tensegrity & piezoelectricity – which relate to optimal health & the chiropractic concept of subluxation. Hodgson defined each "Y" and explained that subluxation is characterized by a loss of these six physiological qualities, leading to injury, inflammation, neurological & energetic dysfunction. All resources, including videos, are available at www.superhealthy.com.au Workshop Topic Overview and Resources: Nick Hodgson introduced the workshop, which will cover the basic science behind percussion therapy & the 3D energy gun, focusing on the "six Y’s of physiology" & their relation to optimal health & the chiropractic concept of subluxation. Hodgson noted that all resources, including videos, are available on the website, www.superhealthy.com.au, either on the blog page or within a structured program under the programs section. The Six Y’s of Physiology: Nick explained the six Y’s is an acronym derived from the last letter of six concepts: adaptability, flexibility, pliability, renitency, tensegrity & piezoelectricity. He described these concepts, with adaptability at the center of the wheel, being the quality of a system to adjust to new conditions. He emphasized that maintaining homeostasis, a stable internal environment, requires a "massive potential for adaptability" & constant change across all physiological systems. Flexibility & Pliability: Nick defined flexibility as the ability to move through an unrestricted range of motion, which is crucial for healthy function & movement. He distinguished pliability from flexibility, describing it as the requirement for tissues to be supple enough to stretch freely or repeatedly without breaking, akin to elasticity. Hodgson provided neuromuscular skeletal system examples for both, such as range of motion for flexibility & the elasticity of connective & muscle tissues for pliability. Renitency & Tensegrity: Nick discussed renitency as the ability of tissues to withstand stress & strain, linking it to the intrinsic strength of tissues to avoid breakdown under load, & noted it was a concept used by the founder of chiropractic, DD Palmer. He also introduced tensegrity, an engineering & architectural principle applicable to human structure, defined by "tensional integrity or continuous tension against discontinuous compression". He explained that tensegrity principles are demonstrated in many human connective tissue structures, such as joint complexes, intervertebral disc collagen & fascial planes. Piezoelectricity & Energetic Systems: Nick concluded the six Y’s with piezoelectricity, which is the electric polarization resulting from mechanical stress, & relates matter to energy. He explained that piezoelectricity introduces the energetic & electric component to health, moving beyond a "Newtonian mechanical system". He provided examples, noting that bony structures follow piezoelectric stimuli for organization & reorganization, & connective tissues generate currents that aid in biofeedback & proprioception. The Six Y’s & Subluxation: Nick related the six Y’s to subluxation, defining it as functional & subsequent changes in the cranio-spinal meningeal functional unit (CSMFU). Subluxation is characterized by a loss of adaptability, flexibility, pliability & renitency, leading to injury & inflammation. He stated that this also involves the disruption of tensegrity, where interference with any flexible component impacts the entire system, & an interference with piezoelectricity, leading to neurological & energetic dysfunction, which is a chiropractic foundational concept.
