Alpine Descent Through the Village of Appenzell | Öberefahre in Appenzellerland, Switzerland

🎞️ This Öberefahrt (traditional alpine descent) began on the summer pastures at the foot of the Alpstein mountains and led directly through the village of Appenzell, Switzerland. From there, the group continued on to the home farm outside the village. At the start of the descent, the Sennen carry the heavy bells of the lead cows over their shoulders using a wooden yoke while the cows leap playfully down the mountain meadow. Once on level ground, the procession takes on its classic formation: Sennen with bell cows in front, followed by the herd, and finally the farmers with their bull at the end.
