Aldgate and Whitechapel Historical Pub Tour

In this episode we are in the historic district of Aldgate and Whitechapel, visiting seven superb pubs and investigating some fascinating historical events. We explore a range of topics from murder, prostitution, suicide, poverty, a poisoning epidemic, Fascism, and entertainment! We visit a superb Victorian music hall, the burial site of a suicide and murderer, the site of a Roman Gate, the place where courageous Jewish resistance defeated Fascism, an example of a ‘Commissioners Church’, and the site of the ‘pump of death’. The range of pubs we visit include an extremely rare survivor of the Great Fire and several 19th Century pubs, some with dark connections to Victorian horror.
