And be thankful. • If we gain all in this world – wealth, power - but do not have peace, what use is it? Yet many live a wretched life having it all but no peace, no sleep. • For the Jew, a significant word is Shalom – divine peace and total well-being. It is used frequently, especially as a form of greeting. See the angels how they greet in the Bible –“Peace be unto you!” • Also, a form of blessing. Eli blessed Hannah – Depart in peace. In the Aaronic blessing, “The Lord bless you and give you peace. • We all desire peace, to sleep in peace at the end of the day. And at the very end of life, to be joined to our fathers in peace. “Thank you, Lord,” Simeon prays, “for sending me home in peace because I have seen your Yeshua.” • We have the promise of Divine Peace. Jer 33:6 “‘Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. • Whenever we are in difficulty or disappointment, God promises the fullness of overflowing peace. • But look at Israel; they could not identify their source of peace, Jesus, their Messiah. Lukwe 19:42 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. • They forgot the covenant God made with His people. It was a covenant of peace. Isa 54:10 Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you. • We see in the Bible a God of peace – “ and the God of peace will soon crush satan..” • The peace God desires us to have is multi-faceted: • #1: Peace with God. Peace between man and God. Sin separated man and God. We were reconciled to God through Christ’s death. It brought the restoration of peace between man and God. • Job 22:21 “Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you. • Eph 2:14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. • He made peace, and He IS our peace. This peace we have was not obtained free. The punishment for our peace was upon Him. • This peace is the gospel. Eph 6:15 and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. It is a message of peace. Convey this message to the peace-less world. • #2: Peace within us. Jn 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. • This peace should rule our heart. Jn 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” • The disciples cried out – Lord, do you not care we are sinking? Jesus desired they experience the peace, not after the storm had subsided. But that while they were going through it, they would have divine peace. • When there is s storm without, He will make peace within. He never promised a calm voyage but a peaceful landing. Calm waters never made an expert sailor. Real calmness is present not around us, but be calm in our hearts while it’s noisy outside. • If you are depressed and full of regrets, you live in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If we are a child of God, we are always at peace, living In the present. • #3: Peace with others. Rom 12:18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 1 Thess 5:…Live in peace with each other. • Forgive others not because they deserve forgiveness but because you deserve peace. • #4: Eternal peace. Isa 57:2 Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.
