During her long tenure with Minneapolis-based BKBM Engineers, Tina Wyffels has led or co-led structural engineering for notable projects such as the Pillsbury Hall restoration at the University of Minnesota and the Bde Maka Ska refectory in Minneapolis. Now she’s taking on a new level of responsibility at the company, which has 43 employees and offices in Minneapolis and Denver. Wyffels, who joined the company in 1999 as a structural design engineer, was recently promoted to president, a move that reflects the “next step in a long-term leadership and ownership succession plan,” according to BKBM. The transition has been “close to three years in the making,” Wyffels said. “So it has been a slow learning curve, and now it’s just official in title.” In thhis interview, Wyffels talks about her new duties as president, the company’s projected workload in 2026, the struggle to attract workers in the industry, and the importance of “pivoting and adapting” to ensure the firm’s success, among other topics.
