Back when New Wave really was new, Roaring Jelly nicked classical music's best known riff, threw it in a blender with a pint of ska, a chunk of punk and a large slice of cheek, battered and deep-fried it and this was the result. It soon became a bit of a show stopper at gigs. It was written by Clive Harvey and this studio version features: Clive (lead vocal, acoustic guitar), Derek Pearce (backing vocal, mandolin), Mick Hennessy (backing vocal, bass) with fine session support from usual suspects Graeme Taylor (electric guitar), Terry Loane (Hammond organ), Pete Bullock (baritone sax) and Michael Gregory (drums). Recorded in 1981 at Gateway Studio, London, produced by John Gill. Released on the Topic LP "Roaring Jelly - In The Roar" (Topic 12TS420). Clive is proud to report that the song was featured in a BBC Radio 4 (no less) programme about Beethoven's 5th Symphony. LVT 2018. For Roaring Jelly info see https://www.cliveharvey.net "Hello Ludwig, wherever you are What do you think of bluebeat and ska? Turn in your grave if you're not too stiff I just had to rip off your catchiest riff -- Da da da da -- da da da da Beethoven bluebeat, Beethoven ska..."
