Harmony in Worship: Daughters of Light Shines at AVMCC 2025 Inter-Society Singing Competition The air inside the Cathedral auditorium was charged with excitement and reverence on Sunday, 5th October 2025, as the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral (AVMCC) hosted the 2025 Inter-Society Singing Competition, a much-anticipated highlight of its Annual Choir Festival. About 15 societies participated in this year’s edition, turning the sacred space into a theatre of praise and musical artistry. The event opened with the congregation singing “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” to the majestic tune Blaenwern, setting a tone of grace and unity. Each performance brought something unique from classical hymn renditions to indigenous anthems in Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo. The Daughters of Light, an all-female choir, stole the show with an ethereal delivery of “Ekele m gi Eze Ihe I na eme bara uba” by Mirabel Chisom Moneke, complete with a flawless descant that held the audience spellbound. The YWCA thrilled the congregation with Chinyere Udoma’s “Akpolie Chukwu Ebube”, while several others rendered Sir Sam Ojukwu’s “Jisos Krist Nwa Chukwu”, filling the auditorium with passion and purpose. It was a moment of shared joy and celebration for Daughters of Light Society as the Lizzy Chinyere Ikenua led Radiant Voices inspired by Diran Areo electrified the church auditorium and once again showed the stuff they were made. They have always been consistent and always made it to the top three since they started participating. As one observer put it, “The glory of the Lord came down, and every choir gave their best.” In case you were not opportuned to see their perform , they have been selected to perform at the AVMCC 53rd Choir Festival Evensong , they will be a delight to watch.
