NEW DISCOVERY ALERT: MEET JIMETO : A YOUNG CONDUCTOR STEPPING INTO GREATNESS At the just-concluded 2025 Diocese on the Niger Post Primary School Music Festival, many discoveries were made gifted singers, promising soloists, emerging organists, instrumentalists, and future choirmasters. These talents are springing up from homes, church choirs, schools, and notably from initiatives like the Diocese on the Niger Summer Music School. What the Diocese has achieved is profound: engaging the spare time of young people meaningfully, redirecting energy from social vices to purposeful service building character, strengthening faith, and adding real value to society and the Kingdom of God. One name stood out clearly: Emmanuel Orajimetochukwu Nwokike, fondly called Jimeto. True to the meaning of his name, Jimeto has made himself an instrument of praise to God. A JS 2 student of Royal Family Secondary School, Odume Obosi, this Nnokwa-born prodigy showed maturity far beyond his years. Anyone who watches the spontaneous post-performance interview will immediately understand why many agree: this young man is born great and going places. While observing his performance, one thing was unmistakable Jimeto was fully in charge of his craft. His conducting revealed deep musical understanding: clear cues, confident timing, mastery of entries, and even effective coordination with the organist. The consensus among observers was simple: this is not raw talent alone; this is talent that has been carefully nurtured. No wonder Jimeto and his team from Royal Family Secondary School, Odume Obosi delivered a compelling rendition of “Revive Thy Work, O Lord (Nn’ayi tute olu Gi)”, the instrumentalists, singer’s chorographers and indeed the conductor were all on point thus emerging: Overall 2nd Position with 1,112 points Champions of Group A – Mixed Schools Category About the Hymn “Revive Thy Work, O Lord” was written by Albert Midlane (1825–1909), inspired by a deep yearning for spiritual renewal in the Church. Rooted in Habakkuk 3:2, the hymn is a prayer for God to restore zeal, awaken faith, and revive His people — not through programs, but through His sovereign work in human hearts. Its message remains timeless and urgently relevant. Three members of our community assisted with research on this rising prodigy and have been appreciated with data and airtime. They are welcome to confirm this publicly — transparency matters here. Did you watch Jimeto conduct? What stood out to you? Do you believe this is the future of church music in our Diocese?
