By the end of day 4 we’d got ourselves to Doussard where Steve left us to meet up with his family, and where Mincek, who evidently fancied a hot shower, decided to camp with his Polish friends in the campsite, leaving Richard and me to find a quiet spot to wild camp near the landing field. The forecast for day 5 wasn’t great for xc flying so Mincek went for some local flying with his mates, whilst Richard and I snuck into the campsite for a shower, and afterwards we caught up with Jack and Malin at Flyeo, then we stocked up on some fresh vegetables in the form of a delicious salad at a small restaurant in Doussard. After lunch we started hitching to Sambuy Station where we planned to camp the night in readiness for Saturday’s good forecast and the push past Chamonix into Switzerland. We’d barely started walking when a car pulled over - it was Feite and Briget, who we’d met in St-Hilaire a couple of days earlier. They were heading to the supermarket but were more than happy to take us to Sambuy Station in return for a beer or two! Mincek meanwhile had an epic ten lift retrieve from the west side of the Rocque de Boeuf where he’d landed with his mates, and he made it to within 9kms of Sambuy, however the traffic from there onwards was one way only at that time of day, and it wasn’t up! With only 45 mins before the chairlift closed at 1730, Fiete and I drove down the hill to pick him up… It was beautiful at the top of the hill, but one thing it wasn’t, was flat! There was only one small area right by the top of the chairlift, but at least it was sheltered from the wind. It was chilly up there, but the views looking north over Lake Annecy were stunning, and when it got dark the stars were incredible… Saturday, day 6, dawned sunny with much lighter winds and after breaking camp and hiking half an hour to the Col de Sambuy I optimistically set goal at Fiesch, some 170kms away... So strap yourself in and join me on my epic 6.5 hour flight deep into Switzerland! I hope you enjoy the ride...! Tracklog: https://www.xcontest.org/world/en/fli...
