Mobile Antenna Placement, Return Loss and Tuning and the Case for Half-Wave over Quarter Wave

In this video I demonstrate the effects of mounting VHF mobile antennas in places that have less than ideal ground planes. This throws all the cutting charts off. This includes using angle brackets, locations without enough ground plane metal available, and locations where the antenna is placed next to a large piece of metal. For most of these situations and general use purposes, I am making the case for using 1/2 wave antennas. Their overall performance and generally being less sensitive to their mounting situation makes dealing with the longer whip worth it.
