6.8 Insulin secretion

In the previous videos, we discussed several different ways by which metabolism can be regulated, including allosteric regulation, phosphorylation and changing the amount of enzyme. In this and the next few videos, we shall show how these different ways come together to regulate metabolism after a meal and during starvation periods. Insulin plays a major role in regulating metabolism after a meal. In this video, we shall discuss increased blood flow to the GI system after a meal (gastrointestinal hyperemia) and how insulin is secreted by the beta cells in the pancreas via the triggering pathway and the amplifying pathway.
