Day 19 – Sunday – March 8 Third Sunday of Lent (Year A) Today’s Readings: Exodus 17:3–7 Psalm 95:1–2, 6–7, 8–9 Romans 5:1–2, 5–8 John 4:5–42 Character Reflection: The Samaritan Woman — From Spiritual Thirst to Living Water Today’s readings remind us that God understands the deepest thirst of the human heart. Often, what we truly seek is not just physical needs or temporary comfort, but something deeper—meaning, love, forgiveness, and hope. In the first reading from Exodus, the Israelites wander through the desert and begin to complain because they are thirsty. They question whether God is truly with them. Yet even in their doubt, God provides water from the rock through Moses, showing that He continues to care for His people. Psalm 95 calls us to trust God and not harden our hearts. It reminds us that we are the people God shepherds and guides. In the Gospel, Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well. She comes for ordinary water, but Jesus offers her something greater—living water that satisfies the deepest thirst of the soul. Despite her complicated past and the judgment she likely faced from others, Jesus speaks to her with compassion and truth. This encounter transforms her life. After meeting Jesus, the Samaritan woman becomes a witness, sharing what she experienced and bringing others to Him. Her story reminds us that Jesus meets us exactly where we are. He does not wait for us to be perfect. Instead, He offers grace, renewal, and a deeper relationship with Him. Lenten Reflection Questions • What “thirst” am I trying to satisfy in my life right now? • Do I look for fulfillment in things that cannot truly satisfy? • Am I open to letting Jesus speak honestly into my life? • Are there parts of my past that I struggle to bring to God? • How can I share the hope I have found in Christ with others? Lent is a time to pause and reflect on what truly nourishes our hearts. Like the Samaritan woman, we are invited to encounter Christ and receive the living water that brings lasting peace and hope. Prayer Lord, You know the deepest needs of my heart. Help me turn to You instead of the things that cannot truly satisfy. Fill my life with Your living water and guide me closer to You. Amen. Action Take a few moments today for quiet prayer. Ask God to reveal the deeper needs of your heart and allow His grace to fill them.
