Day 25 – Lenten Reflection (Saturday – March 14) Today’s reflection is based on Hosea 6:1–6, Psalm 51, and Luke 18:9–14. These readings invite us to examine our hearts and rediscover the power of humility before God. In the book of Hosea, the prophet reminds God’s people that the Lord desires faithful love and mercy rather than empty rituals. True faith must come from a sincere heart, not merely outward religious practices. Psalm 51 echoes this message through a powerful prayer of repentance. The psalm teaches that what God truly desires is a humble and contrite heart. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus tells the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. The Pharisee proudly lists his religious achievements, while the tax collector simply asks God for mercy. Jesus reveals that the humble tax collector—not the proud Pharisee—goes home justified before God. The life of Paul the Apostle beautifully reflects this transformation. Once confident in his own righteousness as a Pharisee, Paul later recognized that true righteousness comes from God’s grace. After encountering Christ, his life changed completely, and he became a humble servant spreading the Gospel. These readings remind us that pride can distance us from God, but humility opens our hearts to His mercy. Lent invites us to reflect honestly on our hearts and return to God with sincerity and trust.
