When: The Scientific Secrets Of Perfect Timing by Daniel Pink 1. Know Thyself (your energy levels) Knowing when you're at your highest and lowest levels of energy is essential towards optimizing your time towards achieving your goals, and being the most productive. You can't warp time but what what you can do is figure out when you should exert your bestinto the things that take priority. 2. Taking Breaks The brain is a muscle, and it needs to take a break every once in awhile. If you keep on straining it, it's not going to be as effective as it can be. So get up, stretch, put yourself in a different environment, and breathe. The perfect break is a 'nap-a-cino'. It's a nap, plus some type of caffeinated beverage, preferably a coffee. What you do is take a 25 minute nap. Any longer than 25 minutes will make your body go into a rapid eye movement state which will put you into a deeper sleep. But if you have it less than 25 minutes, you're not going to feel as refreshed. It's gonna feel a little bit short and empty, not as satisfying. The 25 minute mark is perfect, not only for the nap, but also for when the coffee kicks in. So have your coffee before the nap, and 25 minutes later, it kicks in. 3. Starting Dan mentions there's three ways to get the start on. Start Right - Preparing and thinking about what could possibly go wrong. You should also be thinking about your end goal and how you can create those building blocks to achieve it. Start Again - Recommitting yourself to something when you face an obstacle, or reassessing how things are going, so then, if you need a reboot, you can. A lot of us start again all the time. New Year's, a perfect time to start again because we reflect back on the past year to see what we should be committing to. Start Together - Making public what you want to achieve, and committing yourself. We're all social creatures, so that added layer of involvement from others will allow you to master your time, and optimize it, so you can achieve what you need to do. 4. Creating Checkpoints Figure out when the best time is to stop and assess how you're doing, because you can use these checkpoints as motivation to quicken the pace at which you're trying to achieve your goal. A great hack that Dan mentions is stopping while you're in the groove of something so that, when you bring yourself apart from it, you have this nagging feeling that you really wanna complete that project. 5. Meaningful Ending Determine where you're going in order to optimize your time to get there, and that means realizing why you're doing things in the first place. If you figure that out - the why - you'll find the motivation to get there. And those are The Five Tips of When, by Dan Pink. #booksummary #bookclub ———————————— Interested in the book?
