Sören Sieg: Siku njema. Performed by Picobella and Daniel Koschitzki

Siku njema is Swahili and means A Great Day. It is my first piece for solo recorder and recorder orchestra and was inspired by my visit to the NYRO (National Youth Recorder Orchestra) concert in York in the summer of 2015. The solo recorder plays three different recorders - sopranino, bass, and alto - during the piece, and there are three different themes. The first is played by the orchestra at the beginning; it is about the feeling in the early morning of the great day when you wake up and imagine that it has arrived and what is going to happen now. The second theme is presented by the sopranino in its first appearance; it is about celebrating the Great Day with your friends and family and your loved one. The third theme is again played by the orchestra; it describes the moment in the end of the day, when you step out on the balcony, terrace or garden, alone, looking at the moon and the stars, thinking about your life, remembering the wonderful things that happened, that you enjoyed, and that will not come back. I wish to thank the recorder orchestra PICOBELLA and their brilliant conductor and soloist and international awarded recorder artist Daniel Koschitzki for this wonderful performance during the ERTA Congress in Stuttgart on September 27. Es ist mein erstes Stück für Solo-Blockflöte und Blockflötenorchester und wurde inspiriert vom Konzert des NYRO (National Youth Recorder Orchestra) in York im Sommer 2015, zu dem Colin Touchin mich eingeladen hatte. Die Solostimme in Siku njema wandert durch drei verschiedene Blockflöten - Sopranino, Bass, Alt - und das Stück hat drei große Themen. Im ersten Thema geht es um das Gefühl, das einen am frühen Morgen des großen Tags überkommt, wenn man gerade aufwacht und realisiert, dass es nun so weit ist und was gleich alles passieren wird. Im zweiten Thema, das die Solo-Piccolo bei ihrem ersten Einsatz anstimmt, geht es darum, wie man den großen Tag mit seinen Freunden, seiner Familie und seinen Liebsten feiert und zelebriert. Das dritte Thema, wieder gespielt vom Orchester, beschreibt den Moment am späten Abend, wenn man alleine aus der Tür nach draußen tritt, in den Garten, auf den Balkon, auf die Terrasse, Mond und Sterne betrachtet, auf sein Leben zurückblickt und sich der Dinge erinnert, die passiert sind, die wundervoll waren, aber nicht wiederkehren werden. Ich möchte mich ganz herzlich bedanken beim Blockflötenorchester Picobella und ihrem Dirigenten, Solisten und weltweit anerkannten Blockflötenvirtuosen Daniel Koschitzki für diese tolle Aufführung! Mein Dank geht gleichfalls an den fantastischen Komponisten Markus Zahnhausen, der die Aufführung gefilmt hat. Ich wünsche allen einen großartigen Tag mit SIKU NJEMA!
