If you've grown up in a Protestant church, you've probably heard the word "Reformation" a hundred times. But can you explain what was actually at stake — theologically, historically, and biblically? In this video, we go deep into the five foundational convictions of Protestant Christianity, known as the Five Solas. These five Latin phrases — forged in the fires of the sixteenth-century Reformation — summarize what Martin Luther, John Calvin, and the Reformers believed they had recovered from Scripture after centuries of theological drift. These aren't just historical slogans. They are the theological spine of everything Protestant Christianity confesses about God, salvation, authority, and worship. And they are built directly on the text of Scripture. Here is what we cover in this video: Sola Scriptura — Scripture Alone. We examine what the Reformers meant when they said the Bible alone holds binding authority over the conscience of the believer. We look at 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and trace the historical crisis that made this principle necessary. This is where the Reformation began — not with Luther's personality, but with a question about final authority. Sola Gratia — Grace Alone. We dig into Ephesians 2:8-9 and trace Paul's argument that salvation does not originate in human effort, moral achievement, or religious performance. It originates entirely in the unmerited favor of God. We look at how the medieval church had drifted from this and what the Reformers recovered. Sola Fide — Faith Alone. We examine Luther's breakthrough in Romans 1:17 and the revolutionary claim of Romans 4:5 — that God justifies the ungodly through faith, not through works. We explain what justification means, why it matters, and why Luther called it the doctrine on which the church stands or falls. Solus Christus — Christ Alone. We look at Hebrews 10:12 and the extraordinary detail that Christ sat down after offering his sacrifice. No priest ever sat down in the Jerusalem temple. The work was never finished. But Christ sat down because his work was complete. He is the sole mediator and the sole basis of the believer's standing before God. Soli Deo Gloria — To God Alone Be the Glory. We close with Romans 11:36 and the conviction that if salvation is entirely God's work — from first to last — then the glory belongs entirely to him. Not to the church. Not to the believer. To God alone. This video is for anyone who has ever wondered what separates Protestant Christianity from other Christian traditions, anyone who wants to understand their own faith more deeply, and anyone who is curious about what the Reformation was actually about beneath the historical drama. We use original languages where they matter. We examine the historical context that shaped the Reformation. We walk through the biblical texts carefully and honestly. And we connect everything back to the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you've never had the Five Solas explained clearly, this is the place to start. If you have heard of them before, this video will help you see them in the light of Scripture in a way that makes them come alive.
