This week Schony747 features Steamrail Victoria's Eureka Express as it flies along The Ballarat Railway Line between Melbourne and Ballarat. Scottish built Hudson R Class Steam Locomotive R711 Spirit of Bendigo hauled the vintage car consist. The Ballarat Line features a mix of steep grades and flat lines and you will see R711 pounding up the grades and flying along the flat lines. The R Class replaced the A2 Steam Engine on high speed passenger trains in the early 1950s. All locomotives were withdrawn just over 20 years later as the diesel era took hold.
