The goal of this remix was to deliver a tighter, punchier presentation by removing the ADT (artificial double-tracking) from John’s vocal. Eliminating the ADT not only sharpens the vocal focus but also brings greater attention to the heavily driven guitars in this rocker from the Revolver album. The original stereo mixes were treated with wide ADT—panned hard left and right—a popular recording technique at the time. While common in the 1960s, ADT has since fallen out of favor with modern listeners. This remix offers a fresh opportunity to hear the song as it might have sounded if it had been recorded in a different era. The only other changes made in this remix—sourced from the Giles Martin 2022 official remix—include tightening the alignment between the drums and bass (which were slightly separated) and separating the beautifully blended harmony vocals during the chorus. In this version, each harmony is clearly positioned in its own space: Paul can be heard in the left channel, John in the center, and—though it's a bit harder to identify—possibly George in the right channel. The backing track for “Doctor Robert” was recorded in seven takes on April 17, 1966, at EMI Studios in London (now Abbey Road Studios), with vocals overdubbed two days later on April 19. The harmonium part was played by John, and George added the maracas. Paul not only played bass but also performed a piano part that was either mixed out entirely or reduced to the point of being inaudible in the final release. American fans were the first to hear “Doctor Robert” when it was included on the Yesterday and Today album, released in June 1966. British audiences didn’t hear the track until the Revolver album's release in August of that same year. To meet Capitol’s request for additional tracks to complete their summer-release album, EMI quickly sent over a few mono-only mixes. For the stereo version of Yesterday and Today, “Doctor Robert” was processed with fake stereo treatment. Thank you very much for taking the time to listen to this new 2025 remix of “Doctor Robert.”
