Sophia Caneiro's blood was on the jeans. Paul Caneiro's DNA was mixed in with it. Today the state's forensic DNA analyst laid it all out for the jury. Danielle Reid, a senior DNA analyst from Bode Technology in Virginia, walked through every sample recovered from Paul Caneiro's basement: a pair of blood-stained jeans, six black gloves, and kitchen swabs from the Colts Neck crime scene. Using STARmix probabilistic genotyping software, Reid testified that Paul's DNA showed up alongside his eight-year-old niece Sophia's on multiple items, with the software confirming the combination was possible on every glove tested. A Brooks Brothers scarf and hair fiber also came back to Sophia. On cross, the defense revealed that Paul and his brother Keith share over 70% of their genetic markers and that the lab never ran STARmix's related-individual analysis. The question the jury has to sit with: if the software was only asked to compare Paul against random strangers, how certain are these results when the family shares this much DNA? ⏰ KEY MOMENTS 00:00 - Court opens, Danielle Reid takes the stand 02:41 - Reid qualified as expert in forensic DNA analysis 23:03 - STRmix results on jeans and gloves begin 52:29 - Cross-examination begins 55:44 - Defense walks through Keith and Paul's shared alleles 1:29:15 - Defense examines STARmix deconvolution confidence levels 1:58:45 - Redirect examination CASE BACKGROUND REPORT: https://www.justiceisaprocess.com/can... 📖 CASE BACKGROUND November 20, 2018: Firefighters found Keith Caneiro, 50, shot five times on his front lawn. Inside the burning mansion: his wife Jennifer, 45, and children Jesse and Sophia, all stabbed. The children died from smoke inhalation. Hours earlier, a fire broke out at Paul's home eleven miles away. Prosecutors call it a "ruse" to divert suspicion. The motive: Keith had discovered Paul stealing from their businesses and family trusts, and sent an email cutting off Paul's $225,000 salary the night before. Paul Caneiro, 59, has been jailed without bail for over seven years. If convicted, he dies in prison. 📂 PLAYLISTS & RESOURCES 🌐 Website: https://www.justiceisaprocess.com ► Live Broadcasts: • LIVE BROADCAST: NJ v.
