Justin & Joey visit Laurel Valley Plantation in Thibodaux, Louisiana Near Nicholls State University (NSU) Slave Quarters were converted into worker housing after the abolition of slavery. In time the roves were changed to metal. https://www.laurelvalleyplantation.com/ “The Laurel Valley Plantation Village housed enslaved people, free people of color, Acadians and Creoles, and numerous immigrant groups including Irish, Italian, and Chinese workers. With nearly 40 original structures remaining, Laurel Valley offers a unique glimpse into plantation life along the bayou.” “The Laurel Valley Heritage Foundation works to preserve and interpret the largest surviving 19th and 20th century sugar plantation complex in the United States.” They do tours 🙂 I called (985) 492-0782: “They have been remodeled a ton.” “We know that there were 13 of the type of construction style of double homes when the original owner died in 1852, which is what was used during the time of slavery.” “We can’t point to a house and say, slaves lived there.” “They probably did.” He talked about pre nails construction, wooden roof with metal on top… The gentleman gave so much information; it was hard to quote all of the data points, but the gentelman is so knowledgable of the facts going through time, that we are saying that yes, some of the remaning existing houses had slaves living in them. I just filmed the wrong side of the road, so I may have to go back 🙂👍 He knows some information he isnt willing to share because it is tough to talk about, that points to more reasons why he can say that some of the doubles were spave quarters. The shotgun houses were not slaves houses; the doubles on the other side of the road most probably were because of all of the information know about them…
