Ouch That Hurts - Prehospital Pain Management February 13, 2025 Training By, Jeffrey Nusbaum, MD, MBA, FACEP Assistant Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine University of Maryland School of Medicine Medical Director, Baltimore County Fire Department Assistant Medical Director, Maryland ExpressCare Critical Care Transport Assistant Medical Director, Baltimore City Fire Department (MD3) Dr. Nusbaum Jeff began his emergency career as a volunteer firefighter with the Bryn Mawr Fire Company in Bryn Mawr, PA while attending Haverford College. After college, he went on to volunteer with a local EMS agency in Westchester, NY. He subsequently attended Georgetown University School of Medicine and then completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC. He served as the chief resident during his 4th year. Following residency, Dr. Nusbaum complete Fellowship in Emergency Medical Services at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He stayed on as faculty after fellowship, working in the ED of several of UPMC's critical access hospitals. During this time, he completed an MBA at The Katz School of Business at Pitt, served as medical director for several ground EMS agencies throughout Western PA, and flew as a flight physician for STAT MedEVac. In 2021 he joined the faculty of the University of Maryland as an Assistant Professor, working clinically in the Emergency Department. He continues to spend most of his time with local emergency responders, serving as the Medical Director of the Baltimore County Fire Department, Assistant Medical Director for the Baltimore City Fire Department, and Assistant Medical Director for the University of Maryland ExpressCare Critical Care Transport Service.
