Birds of the World Discovery | The Cornell Lab of Ornithology | https://birdsoftheworld.org Birds of the World is the world's leading scholarly ornithological platform featuring bird life histories and data resources for every bird in the world. This global ornithological resource drives scientific research, education and biodiversity conservation around the world. Our Discovery Webinar series brings science, keen insights, and scientific training from avian experts from around the globe, available for free to anyone. WEBINAR DESCRIPTION: Every year, the world’s taxonomic authorities examine evidence to re-assess avian taxonomic concepts. The eBird/Clements bird checklist is adjusted to accommodate these changes. Lately, as the authorities have sought to merge the world’s taxonomies into one (called AviList), these changes have been introduced at a faster pace. Soon after the taxonomic changes are settled, our taxonomy team and editors get busy working so that the Birds of the World website reflects the new eBird/Clements taxonomy. Join taxonomy experts Shawn Billerman, Pam Rasmussen, and Marshall Iliff as they discuss these changes in depth. Concepts are intermediate to advanced. Beginners are encouraged to watch “BOW Discovery Webinar: Avian Taxonomy Update 2022” on YouTube for an overview of basic avian taxonomy concepts. Slideshows may be available online at: https://birdsoftheworld.org/bow/news/... SPECIAL GUESTS: Dr. Shawn Billerman, science editor for Birds of the World, a leading expert on bird families, and co-authored Bird Families of the World. Dr. Pamela Rasmussen, lead taxonomist for Birds of the World, member of AviList taxonomic and executive committees Marshall Iliff, project leader, taxonomy specialist, common names database manager, eBird, chair of the AviList technical committee, and member of the executive committee.
