A lot of rain can wreak havoc on your pool. Rainwater washes leaves, twigs, dirt, and other debris into your pool. This introduces a variety of chemicals, minerals, and pollutants into your pool. This alters the water's chemical balance, which can result in the growth of harmful bacteria. Fortunately, by following the right steps using the right products, you can quickly recover your pool and restore it to its former glory. Before you get started with post rain pool recovery, please consider these safety precautions. Wear protective gear such as gloves and boots when handling debris and chemicals in your pool. Make sure to turn the electricity off before cleaning any electrical equipment. To start the rain pool recovery process, follow these easy steps. Step 1 : Try not to let your pool overflow during heavy rain as this allows a lot more contaminants to enter. Step 2: Remove debris. With a net, you can skim the surface of the pool to get rid of large things like leaves, twigs, and branches. To get rid of smaller pieces, vacuum the floor and walls of the pool. Pay special attention to the waterline and the steps and scrub these areas with a brush. Step 3: Clean the pool filter. If your filters are full of dirt, they won't be able to filter your pool water well. If your pool has a sand filter, turn off the pump and clean out the skimmer box and filter baskets. It is important to get your chlorine levels up to around 3ppm to effectively sanitise your water after a storm. You can use your normal chlorine or something like Hy-Clor Super-Shock if your chlorine levels are very low. Mix the recommended amount of Super-Shock or chlorine with a bucket of water, then pour the mixture around the pool's edge. Run your pool's pump and filter it for at least 8 hours. Step 6: Add phosphate remover. The organic material that gets washed into your pool from the rain produces phosphates, and these phosphates are the food source for algae. To prevent algae growth, it is therefore important to remove the phosphates from your pool. You can do this by adding Hy-Clor Phosphate Remover. Step 7: Add clarifier or flocculent. If your pool water is slightly cloudy, wait 24 to 48 hours after shocking your pool and then add clarifier. Clarifier binds to the very small particles that are suspended in your water and allows it to be captured in your filter. If your pool water is very cloudy, add flocculent rather than clarifier as flocculent will clear your water faster. Flocculent binds small particles together, which sink to the floor, thereby leaving previously cloudy water clear. Allow it to circulate for several hours. Turn off the pump and let the water sit undisturbed for 48 to 72 hours. You can then vacuum the particles to waste. Flocculent is only suitable for pools with a waste function. Step 8: Monitor the water. Continue to test the water and make changes to the chemical levels as needed until the water is clear.
