The Utah Women & Leadership Project invited you step into a world of inspiration and empowerment by joining our 2026 seven-part webinar “Women in Leadership Executive Speaker Series.” This series was a celebration of dynamic and influential women who have shattered the glass ceiling landscape in Utah. For the seventh webinar in this series, Dr. Susan R. Madsen moderated a powerful conversation with Dr. Astrid S. Tuminez, the seventh president of Utah Valley University. President Tuminez has faced profound challenges in 2025, including the loss of her husband earlier this year and the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk. Yet resilience has defined her journey from the very beginning—growing up in an impoverished farming community and the slums of a major city in the Philippines. This webinar explored what it means to lead through grief and crisis, while also examining the complexities of guiding a large institution of higher education in uncertain times. President Tuminez shared leadership lessons she has learned throughout her career, as well as the unique challenges and opportunities she has encountered as both a woman and a woman of color.
