The model locomotives are DCC controlled and feature Tsunami2 Sound. You will hear the engineer increase the throttle setting three different times to reach full power in Run 8 to resist the steep grades of Raton Pass. Prototype History: First locomotives built for Amtrak in 1973, they were basically SD40-2s' with a "cowl" body. A total of 150 were delivered to Amtrak by 1981. They were blamed for derailing a few passenger trains in Amtrak service, so the Amtrak decided to sell them. AT&SF acquired 18 of them and set them up for freight service calling them SDF40-2's. Santa Fe did not have any problems with derailments and they were in Santa Fe freight service until the merger with BNSF in 1995.
