It's part of the "J Class," known for their sleek, streamlined design and powerful performance, capable of reaching speeds over 100 mph. After retiring in 1959, the 611 was restored and now runs special excursions, symbolizing the golden age of American railroading. In July 2021, at Strasburg Railroad, the crew fired up the 611 early in the morning using a unique method—sawdust and diesel fuel combined with compressed air to create a draft in the firebox. The video also takes you inside the cab and provides a walk-around view, showing the intricate workings of this legendary locomotive. Additionally, Strasburg Railroad’s Norfolk & Western 475 makes a special appearance, pulling the daily trains, adding to the immersive experience of classic steam railroading.
