In this video we go through all the food I packed for the Amatola. It will provide you with some quick, easy, and LIGHTWEIGHT meal ideas as well as some healthy snack options for your next backpacking hike. I find that the best thing to do when planning meals for multi-day hikes is to keep it simple. The Amatola is a tough hike with a lot of climbs and after spending 8-9 hrs hiking, at the end of the day all you want to do is EAT then sleep. I like to make sure my meals are quick and that I don't have to put much effort into preparing them. 💭 By the end of the hike, I had finished all my breakfasts, lunches & dinners - including the spare meals I packed (thank goodness I brought those). All my dinner portions were fine until the 4th night when I had a sudden rise in appetite. I had about a day's worth of leftover snacks - 2 raw/energy bars, 1 pack of sweets, 3 nut butter sachets, and 2 squares of dark chocolate (packed in a half-eaten slab of Lindt chocolate last minute) Overall I am happy with the food I brought, and in the future when I do hikes longer than 3 nights, I will increase my meal portions for the additional days. ✅ Subscribe for more hiking and backpacking tips: / @africanhiker 🥾 Support my channel --- https://www.buymeacoffee.com/africanh... ➡️ Watch my latest video, what to expect on the Amatola trail: • THE AMATOLA TRAIL | Hiking South Africa's ... ➡️ Watch my previous video, the basic things you need to start hiking • START HIKING | The basic things you need f...
