Weekly Insights with Dom Barcellona 03/08/26: Helping obtain signatures We have started gathering signatures to appear on the General Election ballot scheduled for 11/03/2026. There is only a short time to collect enough signatures. If I do not meet the required number, the current Sheriff will run unopposed for a second term and take one of the county’s top law enforcement positions without citizen input. I have spent my entire life in Winnebago County, dedicating my career to serving our community. With nearly thirty years in the Sheriff’s Office and extensive experience both in the field and administration, I am prepared to bring necessary changes to the Sheriff’s Office. I am running as an Independent because I believe law enforcement leaders should be free from party affiliations that could influence their decisions. My goal is to provide public safety for everyone in the community—not just some segments. As an Independent candidate, I need a large number of signatures to qualify for the ballot. No one should be on the ballot unopposed. We are traveling around the County collecting signatures; signing the petition simply puts my name on the ballot. It does not obligate you to vote for me or endorse me. It ensures that citizens can choose a qualified candidate with substantial hands-on law enforcement and administrative experience.
