If you're shooting beauty at f/8 or f/11, your aperture might be working against you. In this video, I break down why I shoot beauty work at f/3.2 instead of stopping down — and how shallow depth of field does more for directing the viewer's eye than your lighting setup ever could. I walk through several beauty images and show exactly how that soft falloff on the shoulders, neck, and even the back eye pulls all the attention to where it belongs: the center of the face. I also break down a one-light setup using an Aputure 600D bounced off V-flats and foam core, and explain why constant lights make it easier to shoot wide open than strobes.
