Having sciatica sucks! BUT the good news is that 75% of people get better over 6 weeks without any treatment. We see lots of people who think they have sciatica BUT don't! Here are 5 tests to help you decide if yours is... or not?! ⭐ Test 1 Does it feel worst in the morning? This is when the discs have the most water content so is often the worst time of the day. ⭐ Test 2 Is it worse when you sit slumped or bend with a flexed back and straight legs? This puts a strain on the injured part of the disc and can increase your pain. ⭐ Test 3 Is it painful when you cough or sneeze? These 2 things increase your intra abdominal pressure and can cause your pain to worsen for short time. ⭐ Test 4 Do you have pain, tingling or pins and needles and any numbness into your thigh or lower leg and foot? If the answer if yes the most likely cause fo this is the nerve being irritated or compressed. ⭐ Test 5 Does your leg pain or pins and needles worsen when you raise your leg up AND is it more restricted than the other leg? If the answer is yes then it's a high likelihood that its the sciatic nerve. Remember 95% of disc-based herniations or 'slipped discs' get better on their own WITHOUT the need for surgery.
