Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art presents “Discipline of Subjectivity,” a solo exhibition by Austrian artist Erwin Wurm, on view from May 16th to June 30th. This is Wurm’s fourth solo exhibition with Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art, showcasing a dynamic mix of works from his iconic “Abstract Sculptures” series—featuring sausages and cars—to his most recent series “Substitutes” (2024) and “Flat Sculptures” (2024). The exhibition explores two recurring themes in Wurm’s practice: the relationship between humans and food, with popular Austrian items such as sausages, bread, cucumbers, and coffee, and the critique of capitalism through works that deface luxury objects, including cars and high-fashion bags. Over the years, Wurm has also experimented with materials like aluminium and acrylic resin to create his famous “One Minute Sculptures,” combining humor, absurdity, and social commentary. In this video, viewers can watch Erwin Wurm speaking about his practice and explore the exhibition, gaining insight into the artist’s conceptual approach, playful engagement with everyday objects, and ongoing exploration of contemporary culture.
