Chennai, a vibrant metropolis known for its innovation, is poised to make a transformative leap towards becoming the Desalination Capital of India with the inauguration of the ground-breaking 400 MLD Desalination Plant. This visionary initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of the Government of Tamil Nadu, led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, in ensuring water security for Chennai through cutting-edge water technology. The collaborative project involves the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB), a joint venture led by VA TECH WABAG (WABAG), Metito Overseas Limited (Metito), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Design, Build, Operate (DBO) project encompasses the entire project lifecycle, from design and engineering to procurement, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning. Post successful completion, WABAG will take charge of the operation and maintenance for a span of 20 years. The state-of-the-art desalination process incorporates advanced technologies such as Lamella Clarifiers, Dissolved Air Flotation System, Gravity Dual Media Filters, Reverse Osmosis, and Re-mineralization. This cutting-edge facility is set to produce 400 million liters of high-quality potable water daily, serving the residents of South Chennai through the CMWSSB distribution network. WABAG proudly contributes to the Tamil Nadu government's sustainable initiatives, aligning with the goal of ensuring water security for Chennai City through innovative water solutions. Upon project completion, Chennai is on the brink of becoming the Desalination Capital of India, producing an impressive 750 million liters of desalinated water daily, with WABAG spearheading 70% of this monumental output. This positions WABAG as a trailblazer in the water treatment industry, solidifying its commitment to pioneering solutions for a sustainable future.
