The Workers' Party MP Associate Professor Jamus Lim proposed converting underutilised upper floors of multi-storey car parks into pickleball courts to address growing demand for the sport and reduce noise complaints in residential areas. He said the sport now has at least 5,000 serious players in Singapore and suggested that installing retractable sound curtains and using the existing ceilings of car parks could help contain noise. Lim argued that many car park lots in newer estates remain largely empty, so the opportunity cost of repurposing them would be minimal. Acting Culture, Community and Youth Minister David Neo responded that authorities must assess whether locations are suitable and whether significant mitigation costs would be required, adding that practicality and responsible use of public funds remain key considerations.
